Himalayan tahr
A Himalayan mountain goat established in the Southern Alps. Tahr live in steep alpine country and are managed under a specific DOC control plan, so the rules around them differ from other species.

Where you’ll find them
Alpine and sub-alpine country — bluffs, scree and tussock basins. Physically demanding hunting, and weather is the main hazard. Bulls carry a distinctive mane.
Dogs and 1080
Tahr country is generally above the areas treated with 1080, but check the map for the valleys you travel through to get there.
