What we actually do
Getting a yes is the hard part.
Anyone can look at a map. The difficult bit is being someone a farmer is willing to let onto their land — that is what this is built for.
Ask the right property
Pick the block on the map and send one respectful, unconditional request. No price, no pressure, no marketing.
The farmer decides
They accept, decline, or ignore it. They stay anonymous unless they choose to reply — which is why they reply at all.
Before you ask permission
And sometimes you don’t need to ask at all.
New Zealand has roughly 55,000 km of unformed legal roads — “paper roads”. They are legal roads that were never built, and many run straight through private farmland. The public has a right to pass and repass along them without being obstructed.
So the first question isn’t always “who owns this?” — it’s whether there is already a legal way in. When there is, you don’t need to send a request at all.
